Vol. 9 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SLANEY ROD FISHING PROHIBITION.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if he is aware that, although the Wexford Board of Conservators issue licences to about forty rod fishermen in the Bunclody area, these men are not allowed to fish on the River Slaney between Baltinglass and Enniscorthy, a distance of about thirty miles; if he will state the reason for this, and if he proposes to take steps to remove the grievance.

The licence issued by a Board of Conservators does not confer on the licencee any right of fishing in private waters.

It is presumed that the anglers to whom the Deputy refers are excluded from fishing in the River Slaney by persons claiming exclusive rights of fishing in that river. If the persons so excluded feel disposed to question these rights they must bring their case before the Courts for decision. Determining matters affecting fishery rights does not come within the province of my Department.
