Vol. 9 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BANTRY SOLDIER'S PAY.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that William Downey, Chapel Street, Bantry, joined the National Army on May 1st, 1922, with the rank of Quartermaster, and was discharged on March 24th, 1924, that up to September 15th, 1922, he only received one week's pay, that he has made several applications for arrears of pay, and has been promised that the claim would be investigated, and whether the arrears of pay due to Downey will now be paid.

Army pay records show that Mr. Downey received remuneration for army service as from the 6th August, 1922. Prior to that date, according to a statement furnished by himself, he was not able to take up duties as a soldier. It therefore appears that there are no arrears of pay due to him. The matter will, however, be investigated further, and I will communicate the result to the Deputy in due course.
