Vol. 9 No. 11

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT CLAIMS.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he can state why unemployment benefit has not been paid to James O'Neill, Ballyellin, Goresbridge, who has been signing at the Labour Exchange, Bagenalstown, since July 28th, 1924.

It has not been possible, in the time at my disposal, to obtain full particular of this case, but enquiries are being made, and the result will be communicated to the Deputy as early as possible.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that John Lucas, Powerstown, Milford, has been signing at the Labour Echange, Bagenalstown, for over ten weeks without result, and whether, in view of the fact that this man is in very poor circumstances, he will undertake to expedite payment.

John Lucas, of Powerstown, Milford, Co. Carlow, claimed benefit on the 31st July last. The applicant, however, did not appear to fulfil the statutory condition requiring him to prove that he was unable to obtain suitable employment. His claim was accordingly disallowed. The applicant appealed to the Court of Referees, which recommended that the claim should be disallowed. The applicant was fuly notified of this decision.
