Vol. 9 No. 12

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - WESTMEATH LANDS—QUESTION OF DISTRIBUTION.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he is now in a position to state when the lands of Hilltown, consisting of one thousand acres, the property of Mr. Webb, Hilltown, Castlepollard, Westmeath, will be taken over by the Land Commission for distribution to relieve congestion in that district.

The lands referred to appear to be the holding comprising 581 acres, 3 roods, 12 perches in the townland of Hilltown which Matthew C. Webb held as judicial tenant on the Paget Estate, Co. Westmeath, and purchased in connection with the sale of that Estate by the owner direct to the tenants under the Irish Land Act, 1903. The lands have not been offered for sale to the Land Commission, but enquiries will be made.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if the lands of Sallymount, Castlepollard, Westmeath, consisting of one hundred and seventy acres, the property of Mr. Rotherdam, Sallymount, Castlepollard, have been vested in the Land Commission, and if he can state when these lands will be distributed amongst the uneconomic holders and landless people of the district.

Mr. HOGAN

If the lands referred to are the lands of Clonnafeeragh and Ben, they are held by George A. Rotherdam of Sallymount, Castlepollard, as tenant on the estate of E. T. Nugent, which is the subject of proceedings for sale under the Land Act, 1923.

The estate is being dealt with by the Land Commission.

Can the Minister say when these lands are likely to be handed over?

Mr. HOGAN

I cannot.
