Vol. 9 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WIRELESS RECEIVING LICENCES.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he can state what are the charges for Wireless Receiving Licences in Great Britain, and in the Saorstát; what services are at present given to the holders of licences in the latter; whether it is proposed to erect a Broadcasting Station, or Stations, in the Saorstát, when this work will be carried out, and where the Station or Stations will be erected, and whether market intelligence in connection with the sale of agricultural produce will be broadcasted, and whether any steps are being taken to accomplish this.

The fee for an ordinary wireless receiving licence in the Saorstát is £1 per annum, and I understand that in Great Britain it is 10/-. The licence fee in the Saorstát is intended to cover the administrative expenses of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs in connection with the issue of licences and of the supervision of wireless receiving stations.

As regards the establishment of a Broadcasting Station, I have to refer the Deputy to my reply of the 23rd October to the Question put by Deputy O Dubhghaill on the subject, to which I have nothing to add.
