Vol. 9 No. 25

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - OPERATION OF BANKING INSTITUTIONS.

asked the Minister for Finance if in view of the restrictions on credit and the industrial depression resulting therefrom, he is prepared to set up a Commission to enquire into the operations of banking institutions in the country in respect to credit facilities.

In the absence of evidence on the contention put forward by the Deputy, viz., that the industrial depression is the result of the unreasonable restriction of credit by the banks, I am not at present prepared to adopt the Deputy's suggestion.

Does the Minister suggest there is no industrial depression resulting from the restriction of credit?

I would say that the restriction on credit is largely due to the industrial depression.

But the question submitted is in respect to the restriction of credit and the industrial depression resulting therefrom.

I have no evidence that the industrial depression results from restriction of credit.

Any industrial depression resulting therefrom?

Well, to no serious degree.
