Vol. 10 No. 6

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - ACQUISITION OF WESTMEATH ESTATES.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he can now state if negotiations have been completed in respect of the acquisition of the estates of W.G. Bond, at Tully, Aghaboy, Ardagullon, Assnagh, and Lisnatigan, and of Mrs. E.C. Clark, at Drummacor and Gorteenclareen, and of Colonel William H. King, at Annagh, all in County Longford, and the estates of Robert McKenna, at Gorteen and Anneville, or Rathduff, and of Louisa Hepenstal, at Ballynascarry; Captain R. Smyth, Mahonstown, Joseph O'Rielle, Lismonny and Moycashel, and R.W. Bayley, Ballinderry, all situated in County Westmeath; and, if so, when it is likely that they will be distributed for the relief of congestion in the different districts.

Proceedings for the acquisition by the Land Commission under the Land Act, 1923, of two of the estates mentioned in the question have been completed, viz., that of Emily C. Clark, County Longford, lands of Drummacor, comprising 150 acres, 2 roods, 38 perches, and Gorteenclareen, comprising 42 acres, 2 roods, 12 perches, and Joseph J. O'Rielle, County Westmeath, lands of Lismonny, comprising 55 acres, 3 roods, 28 perches, and Moycashel, comprising 84 acres, 0 roods, 2 perches. The lands in these two cases have been distributed and the allottees put into possession of their parcels. In the case of the following three estates the negotiations for acquisition are practically completed, and it is anticipated that the lands will be allotted at an early date:—

Estate of Robert McKenna, lands Gorteen and Anneville or Rathduff, comprising 401 acres. 1 rood, 35 perches.

Louisa Hepenstal, lands of Ballynascarry, comprising 610 acres, 1 rood, 30 perches (both estates in County Westmeath).

W.J. Bond, lands of Agaboy, Ardagullion, Asnagh, Lisraghtigan, Tully, comprising 738 acres, 1 rood, 7 perches, situate in County Longford.

Proceedings for the acquisition of the remaining three estates have also been instituted under the Act:—

Estate of R.W. Bayley, lands of Ballinderry, comprising 152 acres, 2 roods, 29 perches.

Captain R. Smyth, lands of Mahonstown, comprising 218 acres, 0 roods, 22 perches, both in County Westmeath, and the Estate of Colonel W.A. King Harman (which it is presumed is the estate referred to in the question as that of Colonel William H. King), lands Annagh and Barnacor, comprising 99 acres, 0 roods, 5 perches, in County Longford. The proceedings in respect of the two former estates are nearing completion.
