Vol. 10 No. 6

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - SHANNON EEL FISHERIES.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Fisheries whether eel fishery rights on the Shannon are given by tender, and, if so, whether tenders are invited by advertisement, and for what period, and if he can state who are eligible to tender.

The eel fisheries on the Shannon are at present let on a 21 years lease which expires on 1st February, 1926. Tenders for a lease of the fisheries after that date will be invited by advertisement in due course, but the conditions on which a lease will be made have not yet been considered. Any person with sufficient capital to carry on the fisheries and to pay the large rent involved will be eligible to tender.
