Vol. 10 No. 9

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. - DRAINAGE OF CO. CORK LANDS.

asked the Minister for Finance if it is intended to make provision for the drainage of the lands flooded by the river Awbeg, in the Buttevant and Churchtown districts, and if he is aware of the great loss sustained by the farmers in that locality.

There is no existing drainage district on this river, but legislation is being prepared to provide new machinery for initiating and carrying out works of drainage.

May I take it that the drainage of this river will be included in that?

No; but powers will be taken to initiate schemes for any area that seems to require them, and if the schemes are good ones there will be machinery for turning them into effect.

Can the Minister say when he hopes to introduce this Bill?

I could not fix the date. The Bill is in an advanced stage of preparation, but I could not fix a date for its introduction.
