Vol. 12 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GOREY COMPENSATION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state why compensation was not paid to Mrs. K. Byrne, Court, Monamolin, Gorey, Co. Wexford, in respect to the accidental shooting of her son, Peter Byrne, at Union Barracks, Waterford.

The accident referred to occurred after the end of the period of military service to which the Army Pensions Act, 1923, applies. The provision of compensation in claims arising outside that period is at present under consideration. Pending a decision, I regret I am not in a position to deal with Mrs. Byrne's claim.

Am I to take it from the answer that if the claim is re-submitted it will be given consideration under whatever arrangements will be made?

For the information of the Deputy, I may say that a Committee is considering various cases of that kind, and they have had one meeting.
