Vol. 12 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND SHANNON ELECTRICITY SUPPLIES.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what steps he proposes to take to insure that Local Authorities do not contract to take electricity from the Shannon in excess of the quantity they can expect to sell and be then compelled to strike the Shannon revenue on the rates; if he will cause all such proposed contracts to be submitted to him for approval; and if he will take expert opinion as to the prospect of a market in each case before authorising such contracts.

I have no reason to believe that any such conditions as are implied in the Deputy's question would arise under the Shannon electrification scheme, and I cannot express any opinion at this stage on questions of a hypothetical nature.
