Vol. 12 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ANTHONY ESTATE, COUNTY TIPPERARY.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state why Civil Bills for nonpayment of compounded arrears of rent were issued against tenants on the Anthony Estate, Ballytrasna, Co. Tipperary; whether those tenants lodged objections to the particulars of arrears of rent furnished by the landlord to the Land Commission in compliance with the Land Act, 1923; whether he is aware that a number of these cases which were listed and heard by the Judicial Commissioner were allowed, and that the remaining objections have not yet been listed, and whether he is further aware that none of those tenants has as yet obtained proper receivable orders with which they could go to the bank and pay what they owe.

Mr. HOGAN

Eighteen objections were listed for hearing by the Judicial Commissioner in July last, and at the hearing, counsel for the landlord and tenants applied for an adjournment. When the cases were again listed counsel for the landlord stated that the cases had been settled, and that the schedules of particulars would be amended. The schedules of particulars were amended, and as the tenants did not pay the reduced amounts, proceedings were taken. The Land Commission received on the 3rd instant from the State Solicitor a letter addressed to him by Mr. R. Connolly, solicitor for the tenants, in which he stated that the tenants had not received the Receivable Orders, and the Land Commission directed the State Solicitor to discontinue the proceedings, and again issued Receivable Orders to the tenants to enable them to pay.

When were these Receivable Orders issued?

Mr. HOGAN

I could not give the exact date, but obviously it was quite recently. It must have been within the last week.
