Vol. 12 No. 5

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - CLAIM FOR PROFICIENCY PAY.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state on what grounds proficiency pay was refused to ex-Volunteer John Lee, who served as a first-grade clerk in the office of the Quartermaster, No. 2 Brigade, Custume Barracks, Athlone; whether, as is stated, he was entitled to such pay under Defence Order No. 30, and was certified to have been a First-Grade Clerk in his discharge notice.

Additional pay was issuable only to soldier clerks graded as higher clerks and certified by commanding officers to be performing duties of a special or supervisory nature. Mr. Lee did not come within this category. His claim has, therefore, been disallowed. The entry on his certificate of discharge refers to his usual trade, and not his military employment.
