Vol. 12 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - IMPORTED SURGICAL RUBBER GLOVES.

asked the Minister for Finance whether an Irish firm importing surgical rubber gloves made in U.S.A. must pay an import duty of 15 per cent. thereon; whether foreign firms can send similar gloves duty free direct to hospitals in the Saorstát, and whether such firms are thus protected from Irish competition by a 15 per cent. preferential tax.

All firms importing rubber gloves are required to pay a Customs duty of 15 per cent. of the value of the gloves before taking delivery. If the Deputy will furnish the Revenue Commissioners with particulars of the cases in which it is suggested that certain firms are allowed to import such goods without payment of duty, full investigation will be made.
