Vol. 12 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - OLD AGE PENSION WITHDRAWN.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that Mrs. Daly, whose age is stated to be 72 years, of Blackpark, Athy, Co. Kildare, is now a burden on the funds of the Board of Health owing to the withdrawal of her old age pension by his Department, and whether he will have inquiries made with a view to having the pension restored to Mrs. Daly.

Mrs. Daly was in receipt of a pension under the Blind Persons Act from September, 1921, to the 31st March last, when it was withdrawn after medical inspection on a question raised as to blindness by the Pension Officer. There was no definite evidence put forward in March last in connection with the appeal, to show that Mrs. Daly had then attained the age of 70 years. If proof had been supplied the pension would not have been cancelled.

The ophthalmic examination of her eyesight showed that she did not fulfil the terms of the Blind Persons Act, and a formal decision to that effect was given and issued.

If, however, Mrs. Daly is now in a position to prove that she has attained to the age of 70 years she should make an application to the pension officer for the old age pension.
