Vol. 12 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT CLAIMS.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that Patrick Nugent, of Broadleas, Ballymore-Eustace, who lodged a claim on February 18th, 1925, and received £4 18s. 0d. in unemployment benefit at Droichead Nua Branch Office, has been refused further benefit, although Mr. Nugent alleges that he has the full number of contributions to his credit for the seven years ending February 6th 1925, and whether he will have inquiries made in the case.

Patk. Nugent of Broadleas, Ballymore-Eustace, made a claim to unemployment benefit on the 14th February. The claim was not disallowed but payment of benefit had to be withheld pending investigation as to whether the statutory conditions for the receipt of benefit were fulfilled. On the completion of the inquiries all benefit due on that claim up to the end of the fourth benefit year, viz., 28 days, was authorised and paid. A subsequent claim made on the 26th of March which was delayed in consequence of the investigation of the first claim has since been allowed and all benefit due on it, viz., 43 days' benefit, will be paid next Friday.

The total number of contributions paid for Patrick Nugent is 71, viz., 39 in the 1922/23 insurance year and 32 in the current insurance year. According to his own statement made when he first applied for an unemployment insurance book on the 15th September, 1922, he had not previously been an insured contributor.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has received repeated applications from John Kane, Harbour Street, Mountmellick, Leix, for payment of unemployment insurance benefit between June 30th and October 24th, 1924, and if he will state the cause of the delay in investigating this claim, or why he has been unable to authorise payment of the amount claimed.

I regret that the time at my disposal for ascertaining the facts concerning this case has not been sufficient. I am making inquiries and as soon as these are completed, I will communicate with the Deputy.
