Vol. 12 No. 12

CUSTOMS REGULATIONS ON BORDER.

A statement by the Minister for Finance on the question with regard to Customs, which was raised yesterday, will be taken on the adjournment.

We were promised yesterday by the Acting-Minister for Finance that the Minister himself would make a statement on the question to-day. I understood that the statement would be made at the opening of the Dáil. It would facilitate people who have to leave early on Friday, in order to get across the Border, if the statement were made early.

Perhaps the Minister would make the statement at 3.30 p.m.?

That would be too late for our purposes.

Is it impossible to have the question taken now?

I would prefer to deal with the matter later. Deputies will be able to see the statement and it will not assist them in getting across the frontier this evening, at all events.

There is very little to be said on the matter. What we want is a definite statement from the Minister on this question of luggage unaccompanied by the passenger, so that it may go out to the balance of the 100,000 tourists we are expecting, that they will not be obstructed or inconvenienced by these regulations.

We will see later if the statement can be arranged for earlier than 3 o'clock.
