Vol. 12 No. 13

LOCAL AUTHORITIES (COMBINED PURCHASING) BILL, 1925. - EXTENDED SITTING.

I move that the Dáil sit later than 8.30 p.m., and that the motion for the adjournment be taken not later than 10.30 p.m.

Would the Minister inform the Dáil what is the business for which it is necessary to have an extension?

The business on the Order Paper.

I think that rather too vague. I understand that the intention of the Standing Orders is that Deputies should know what is the precise business for which an extended sitting is required. The Order Paper for to-day contains enough work, perhaps, for a fortnight. I suggest to the Minister that it is a little vague to mention the business on the Order Paper. Is it intended to take the Estimates, for instance?

It is intended to sit to 10.30 and take the Estimates if they are reached.

Is it intended to take the items in the order in which they appear on the Order Paper?

May we take that as definite?

Yes, the business will be taken in its order on the Order Paper, but if we reach the Estimates it does not necessarily follow that they will be taken in detail in the order in which they appear on the Paper.

Surely that is the important part?

What I mean is that we will take items 2, 3, 4, and so on, in the order in which they appear. When we come to the Estimates I understand that we will take No. 5 first, and after that No. 61.

Ordered: That the Dáil sit later than 8.30 p.m. and that the motion for the adjournment be taken not later than 10.30 p.m.
