I ask leave to introduce this Bill, which is described on the Orders of the Day. It is a Bill to confer special powers during a limited period on certain electricity supply undertakings and owners of electricity generating stations with a view to the more economical supply of electricity pending the availability of electricity produced by the State by means of hydraulic power derived from the waters of the Shannon. This measure is rendered necessary by the state of things which has come about with regard to certain of these electricity supply undertakings and the owners of electricity generating stations. The principle is really definitely agreed upon, though some of the details of the measure may have to be considered and debated.

When is it proposed to take the Second Stage?
I propose to take the Second Stage on Wednesday if the House on that day take any business other than that regarding the completion of the Panel for the Seanad election. If it is not thought desirable to take any other business on that day, the Second Stage of this Bill will have to be adjourned until after the Recess.
