Vol. 13 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - VOLUNTEER'S PENSION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he will favourably consider the claim to a pension of Volunteer John Nolan, Friary Road, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Army No. 13781, who attested on April 24th, 1922, and who was discharged from the Army on March 4th, 1924, suffering from shell-shock, due to mine attacks on the military posts when he was on duty in Ardee and Drogheda, about November, 1922, as verified by his O/C, ex-Captain C. Donohue, 54th Battalion.

The claim of John Nolan has already been considered and, I regret to say, disallowed. It was found that his disability was not due to a wound or injury. He was informed, therefore, in September and again in November, 1924, that his claim was outside the scope of the Army Pensions Act, 1923.

Notwithstanding that his O/C, Capt. Donohue, has stated that the disability is the result of shock received while on duty in Ardee and Drogheda? I would ask the Minister to have further inquiries made in this case and satisfy himself that he is not doing injustice.

I will further inquire into the matter and let the Deputy know the result.
