Vol. 13 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CO. ROSCOMMON OLD AGE PENSION CLAIM.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state on what grounds an old age pension was refused to Mrs. Anne Fitzgerald, of Clooncan, Ballinlough, Co. Roscommon, a widow with no means and who is almost seventy-four years of age.

This claim to the old age pension was disallowed on the 30th June, 1925, on the ground that the claimant's means exceeded the statutory limit for the receipt of any pension under the Old Age Pensions Act, 1924. It appears that she assigned to her son in April, 1924, on marriage, a farm which was in her name. The assignment was, however, disregarded pursuant to the directions contined in Section 7 (1) of the Old Age Pensions Act, 1924, and the means arising from the farm were calculated as belonging to the claimant.
