Vol. 13 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT—CLAIMS RECEIVED.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of men, women, boys, and girls who applied for unemployment benefit since the commencement of the sixth benefit year, which started on October 15th, 1925, the number refused, and the grounds for the refusal.

From the 15th October last to the 2nd November (the latest date for which figures are available) applications for unemployment benefit have been received from:—

Men

20,822

Boys

270

Women

3,599

Girls

182

I regret that I am not in a position to state the number of those claims which have been disallowed or the grounds of disallowance, but I would hope to have this information within a week.

Mr. BYRNE

Is the Minister aware that at the present moment there is not one in five persons unemployed receiving benefit?

I am not aware of that.

Mr. BYRNE

Will the Minister make inquiries?

That is a separate question.

Mr. BYRNE

It is the same question. Can I repeat the question on the date on which the Minister can give an answer?

That is a repetition with regard to the part which I have not answered.
