Vol. 13 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - RESIGNED POLICEMAN'S PENSION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state the reasons for his refusal to grant a pension to Michael McCarthy, of Schull, Co. Cork, a resigned member of the R.I.C.

Mr. McCarthy failed to satisfy the Committee of Enquiry into Resignations and Dismissals from the Constabulary which investigated his case very fully, that his resignation from that force in December, 1917, was caused by his national sympathies. After a careful review of all the facts and circumstances of the case, I can see no good reason for disagreeing with the unfavourable view formed by the Committee, and I have accordingly informed the applicant that I am unable to authorise the grant to him of a pension.
