Vol. 14 No. 1

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - MOUNTMELLICK DEPENDENT'S ALLOWANCE.

asked the Minister for Defence if he has received a complaint from the widow of the late Volunteer George Brennan, Mountmellick, Leix (No. 39589, D. Co., 7th Battalion), who died at the Curragh Military Hospital on July 29th, 1925, regarding non-payment of dependents' allowance and funeral expenses, and if he is now in a position to authorise payment of whatever amount is due in this case.

As stated in my reply to the Deputy's question on the 12th November last, several claims have been received from Mrs. Brennan. All money due in respect of Marriage Allowance up to the date of her husband's discharge from the Forces has been paid to the applicant. As Mr. Brennan had been discharged from the Army prior to the date of his death, a grant for funeral expenses is not, strictly speaking, issuable in his case. I am, however, considering the possibility of defraying the ordinary expenses incurred by Mrs. Brennan in connection with the burial of her husband and will let the Deputy know my decision as soon as possible.
