Vol. 14 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether six days' unemployment benefit has been stopped from the benefits due to numerous claimants in the Castlecomer district, and whether his attention has been brought to specific cases in that district, and what has been the result.

Under paragraph 1 of the Second Schedule to the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920, as amended by sub-section 3 of section 3 of the Unemployment Insurance (No. 2) Act, 1921, unemployment benefit only becomes payable after the first week of continuous unemployment. This rule applies to claimants generally, including those who have claims in the Castlecomer district, and there has been no stoppage of benefits properly payable to persons resident in the latter district. Cases of particular persons have been reported to me and as a result of inquiries I find that they have received all the benefit to which they were entitled, with the exception of one case in which the claim made in the current benefit year is under investigation.
