Vol. 14 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SALE OF DUTIABLE GOODS.

asked the Minister for Finance if he can state whether the co-operative clubs or societies selling tobaccos and cigarettes in Government Offices are registered or licensed under any Act as clubs, and, if not, under what authority are Government employees allowed to sell dutiable goods without a licence.

In regard to this matter I have nothing to add to the answer I gave the Deputy on the 2nd December last.

Mr. BYRNE

Will the Minister take steps to inquire whether those who are now acting as hawkers of dutiable goods in Government Offices have complied with the provisions of the Industrial and Provident Societies Act. 1893?

I have no knowledge that there were any such persons as are referred to by the Deputy.

Mr. BYRNE

Is the Minister aware that when I first raised the question in the reply, to which he has just referred me, he admitted that such hawking of tobacco was taking place in Government Buildings? Is he aware that only recently hawkers doing the same thing outside Government Buildings were heavily fined in the Police Courts?

I am not aware of that.
