Vol. 14 No. 16

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - DIVISION OF KILDARE LANDS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he can state when the large number of congests and landless men in the Ballyshannon-Kilcullen area, Co. Kildare, whose names were sent in as applicants for economic holdings with the following list of lands to the Land Commission on the 20th March, 1925, may expect the division of the farms in Knockaulin, Usk, Milltown, Thornton, Mooretown, Carrignill, Blackhall, Ballyshannon, and Calverstown, townlands comprising approximately eight hundred acres.

Mr. HOGAN

The position as regards the lands referred to is as follows:— The lands of Knockaulin. These comprise tenanted lands on the Cornwall Estate and will be dealt with when the Land Commission are dealing with the estate under the Land Act, 1923. The lands of Usk, on the estate of James Dixon and the lands of Grange-Beg (not Thornton, as stated in the question) on the estate of George Grange, have been inspected, and the Commissioners have the matter under consideration. The Ballyshannon Demesne on the estate of T. W. J. Price, have been inspected and the Commissioners have decided to take no action in the matter. The Commissioners are having the lands of Blackhall, on the estate of William Ashe, inspected. The lands of Calverstown are purchased lands subject to Land Purchase Annuities. As regards the lands of Milltown and Mooretown, mentioned in the list of lands forwarded on the 20th March, 1925, as owned by Mr. Dixon and Mrs. Dillon respectively, the records of the General Valuation Office do not show persons of these names as occupying lands in these two townlands.
