Vol. 14 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - EXPENDITURE ON NEWSPAPER ADVERTISING.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Finance if he can state the total amount spent by Government Departments on newspaper advertising in the year 1924-5, and the estimated amount for the current financial year, and whether, in view of the demand for economy, he will inquire into the possibility of a reduction of expenditure on this head.

The total amount spent by Government Departments, as shown by the records of the Stationery Office, was £13,709 in 1924-25.

The actual expenditure for the eleven months ended the 28th ultimo amounts to £11,232 and on this basis it may be anticipated that the total for the current year will be about £12,000.

Steps are already being taken with a view to obtaining a further reduction in the cost of advertising by securing, among other things, a reduction in the rates charged by newspapers for Government advertisements.
