Vol. 14 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BALLYDAVID (TIPPERARY) AWARD.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state why the award for compensation in the case of Mr. Nicholas Kickham, of Ballydavid, Nine-Mile-House, for £70 (Ref. No. U.S.061.), on account of damage to his property by British forces, has not been paid, and if he will take steps to have payment made immediately; and if he will state why letters of mine addressed to the Compensation (Ireland) Commission on the 1st and 15th February, 1926, in connection with this case, were not answered.

A Paying Order in discharge of the award mentioned by the Deputy was issued to the claimant's solicitor by my Department on the 3rd March, 1926.

The Compensation (Ireland) Commission (which has now ceased to function) was not subject to control by my Department, and I am, therefore, unable to say why the Deputy's letters of the 1st and 15th February, 1926, remained unanswered.

Would the Minister say who is responsible for the financing of the Compensation Department? Is it not under the control of some Department which could be made responsible for the non-answering of letters?

The Commission is now defunct.

I presume that letters were re-forwarded from the Department to a responsible officer in some other Department but they were not acknowledged.

I have nothing to add.
