Vol. 15 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LAND PURCHASED THROUGH BANKS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture the acreage of lands purchased by societies or bodies of trustees by means of loans advanced by the National Land Bank and the purchase price paid for same, and what amount of such lands is now vested in the Land Commission under Part III of the Land Act, 1923; also, if he can further state the acreage and price of lands similarly purchased by societies and trustees by means of loans advanced through the various Joint Stock Banks, and if it is the intention of the Executive Council to introduce legislation to amend the Land Act, 1923, so as to make it apply to lands purchased through the Joint Stock Banks the same as is being done in the case of the National Land Bank, and, if so, how soon he expects such legislation to be introduced.

The area of lands purchased by societies or bodies of trustees by means of advances made by the National Land Bank is 17,001 acres.

The advances made by the National Land Bank for purchase of these lands amount to £347,316 8s. 4d.

The area of these lands vested in the Land Commission is 15,471 acres.

The Commissioners have no exact information of the area and price of lands purchased by societies and trustees by means of loans from Joint Stock Banks.

It is hoped to introduce at an early date legislation to enable the Land Commission to deal with these matters.
