Vol. 15 No. 22

BUSINESS OF THE DÁIL.

Before we proceed with the business of the day, I would like to give a short outline of our proposals with regard to Estimates. I propose that the Estimates for the Department of Lands and Agriculture will be taken first to complete the whole series; that would include Estimates 52, 53, 54 and 55. Possibly, we shall take Estimate 29 also. That deals with the Beet Sugar Subsidy, and although it is under the Department of Finance, I presume the Minister for Lands and Agriculture will have something to say with regard to it. We could then take up the Estimates connected with the Department of Local Government and Public Health, from No. 40 to No. 44, inclusive. We then propose to take the Estimates which fall under the administration of the Minister for Justice, and will endeavour to complete the series, including Estimates 34, 36, 35 and 37, taking them in that order. The Minister for Justice has two Bills before the Seanad for Wednesday next, and if we do not reach those Estimates before that day they will have to be postponed. If they cannot be taken on Tuesday they will have to be postponed until later in the week. We will then take the Estimates for the Department of External Affairs, Estimates 65 and 66. After those Estimates come the Estimates for the Department of Education, Nos. 45 to 51 inclusive, and also Estimate 28. That Estimate represents a service under the Department of Finance, but it really will be dealt with by the Minister for Education. Then will come the Estimates for the Department of Fisheries. That will leave the Minister for Finance to complete the entire series. I do not anticipate there will be a very lengthy discussion on the Estimates for the Department of Justice.
