Vol. 16 No. 12

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. - CLAIM FOR SALARY—LONGFORD BOARD OF HEALTH.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that Mr. John Scanlan, Richmond Street, Longford, was employed as temporary steward for one month in August, 1925, by the Longford County Board of Health at a salary of £3 per week during the steward's holidays; that his Department refused to sanction payment of salary, and whether he will now have sanction granted, as Mr. Scanlan has received no payment for services rendered.

The facts are as stated. I refused to sanction the proposal as I considered it would have been possible to arrange with the other officers of the institution for the discharge of the duties of the steward during his short absence.

Is the Minister aware that this same man was paid during the time the Commissioner was in charge of Longford County Board of Health for doing similar duties?

Similar duties while the officer responsible was on sick leave. That is a different matter.

Does the Minister maintain that his man was engaged by the County Board of Health? He had done this work for four weeks before the Minister refused sanction.

He should first of all have sought my sanction.
