Vol. 16 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - THE POLLOCK ESTATE, CO. GALWAY.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he can state the date of the commencement of the agistment leases entered into in the cases of Messrs. Henry Bourns, Francis Kenny and the representatives of J.D. Kenny, on the Pollock Estate, Co. Galway.

Mr. HOGAN

In the schedules of particulars lodged for the Pollock Estate the dates of the agistment lettings are not given.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to acquire the non-residential holding in Ballinakill (Pollock Estate), Co. Galway, comprising four hundred and twenty-seven acres, and held by Mr. Eric W. Kenny.

Mr. HOGAN

Eric W. Kenny has been returned as tenant of a holding in the townland of Ballinakill on estate of Major A.B. Pollock (S 4423) for which particulars have been lodged with the Land Commission under the Land Act, 1923. This will be a retained holding and will be dealt with as such when the Commissioners are dealing with the estate under the Act.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to acquire the lands of Kylemore and Ohilmore, Pollock Estate, Co. Galway, held by Mr. William Finney.

Mr. HOGAN

William Finney is not mentioned in the schedule of particulars lodged in respect of the Pollock Estate under the Land Act, 1923.

Mr. COSGRAVE

What steps do the Land Commission intend to take with regard to this man? I am informed that he has no lease; that he went in there as a grazier. Has not the Land Commission sufficient compulsory powers under the 1923 Land Act to deal with this case?

Mr. HOGAN

From the information at my disposal I understand this man is not returned as a lessee. That settles the point.

Mr. COSGRAVE

In what way does it settle the point?

Mr. HOGAN

I gather from the Deputy's statement that he denies Mr. Finney is a lessee—that he has no lease. My information is that Mr. Finney is not returned as a lessee.

Who is the owner?

Mr. HOGAN

The owner is not in question at all. This is the Pollock estate and the question is, who is a tenant?

Mr. COSGRAVE

I understand the Land Commission have sufficient powers to acquire the land.

Mr. HOGAN

I am merely answering the Deputy's question. The Deputy asked whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to acquire the lands of Kylemore and Ohilmore, Pollock Estate, County Galway, held by Mr. William Finney. We have particulars relative to the whole Pollock Estate and Mr. Finney is not mentioned in the schedule of particulars lodged in respect to the Pollock Estate.

Mr. COSGRAVE

I asked the Minister if the Land Commission has power to take this land. The Minister has not given me an answer to that question.

Mr. HOGAN

I was asked whether the Land Commission intend to acquire the lands of Kylemore and Ohilmore held by Mr. William Finney. I replied that William Finney is not mentioned in respect of the Pollock Estate under the Land Act of 1923. Hence, if the Deputy wants further information in regard to specific lands, he must give the Land Commission some index as to what lands they are other than that they are held by a man who is not returned in the schedule.

Mr. COSGRAVE

The fact nevertheless remains that he is there, and the Commissioners should be aware of it.

Mr. HOGAN

The Commissioners have enough to do to answer the questions they get.
