Vol. 16 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLAIM FOR MAINTENANCE OF IRISH VOLUNTEERS.

asked the Minister for Finance whether a claim for compensation amounting to £117 0s. 10d. for support and maintenance of members of the Irish Volunteers from the 14th July, 1921, to 28th November, 1921, has been received on behalf of Mr. J.J. Hessian, Barnaderg P.O., Ballyglunin, Co. Galway; whether this claim has yet been considered, and, if so, what action has been taken or is intended to be taken in the matter.

The claim referred to by the Deputy was duly received in my Department, and has been referred to the Committee set up under the Indemnity Act, 1924, for consideration, so far as it falls within their province. No action can be taken by my Department until the Committee have considered the claim and furnished a recommendation in the matter. I understand, however, that the Committee hope to be able to consider this case at an early date, and also that a portion of the claim with which they are unable to deal will be passed to the Army Finance Officer for attention.
