Vol. 16 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ACQUISITION AND DIVISION OF ESTATES. BAKER ESTATE, EDENDERRY.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he is aware that a number of workers have been disemployed for some considerable time past and deprived of grazing rights as a result of the sale of the Baker estate, Mountwilson, Edenderry, Offaly; if he can state the present position of the Land Commission in regard to the proposal for the acquisition of these lands, and if the Commissioners can state whether same will be divided in the course of the next two or three months, or if he can explain the reason for the delay in having same acquired and divided.

Mr. HOGAN

The Baker estate was sold by the owner to Louis H. Edgill and John Mangan. L. H. Edgill purchased the lands of Mountwilson comprising 113 acres 2 roods 14 perches. The Land Commission included these lands in a provisional list of lands which, if not excluded in consequence of a valid objection, would become vested in the Commission on the appointed day. A notice of objection to the provisional list was lodged by the owner and the objection was heard by the Commissioners, who have reserved judgment. The lands of Thornwell, comprising 260 acres 0 roods 8 perches, were purchased by John Mangan. These lands were published in a provisional list, to which the owner objected. The objection was heard by the Land Commission and disallowed, and the acquisition of the lands will be proceeded with.
