Vol. 16 No. 17

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MOATE EX-LIEUTENANT'S SERVICE.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state why a certificate of military service has not been granted to ex-Lieutenant Thomas Moore, Main Street, Moate, who served in the Irish Volunteers from 1916 until he joined the National Army on May 1st, 1922, from which he was demobilised on July 16th, 1923; if he is aware that the Board of Assessors reported that Lieutenant Moore rendered service in Oglaigh-na-hEireann in the period from April 1st, 1920, until he joined the National Army; if he will state whether the further evidence submitted by this applicant was fully considered, and whether, in view of the fact that Lieutenant Moore was in hospital in February, 1926, when he was notified that the certificate could not be granted, the Minister will now allow him to submit additional evidence with a view to having his case re-considered by the Board of Assessors.

A certificate of military service has not been awarded to Lieutenant Thomas Moore for the reason that he did not establish to the satisfaction of the Board of Assessors that he had given the minimum amount of military service required by sub section 4 of Section 2 of the Military Service Pensions Act, 1924. Further evidence has not been received by me from him in support of his application for a certificate. He may, however submit additional evidence to me with a view to my requesting the Board to re-open their finding as to his service prior to the Truce.
