Vol. 16 No. 17

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SAORSTAT SNUFF MANUFACTURES.

MAOLMHUIRE MACEOCHADHA

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of pounds of snuff manufactured from tobacco in the Saorstát, and the number of pounds of snuff imported into the Saorstát; whether he will also state the amounts of revenue received on account of the snuff manufactured in the Saorstát and of that imported from outside respectively, during the last financial year.

As snuff is manufactured out of bond from tobacco leaf or tobacco stalks, on which duty has been paid, it is not possible to furnish the quantity manufactured, or the proportion of tobacco duty which represents the duty on home-made snuff.

The quantity of snuff imported in the last financial year was 8,362 lbs., the duty paid on which amounted to £4,489.
