Vol. 16 No. 21

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MILITARY SERVICE CERTIFICATE.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Defence if he can explain why the application of Edward Preston, Court Devenish, Athlone, Westmeath, for a military service certificate has been refused, seeing it is stated, that the claimant has given substantial service from 1916 to May, 1922, when he joined the National Army, and whether the applicant will now be permitted to give additional evidence, and, if so, whether this case will be reviewed with a view to having it re-opened by the Board of Assessors.

A certificate of military service has not been awarded to Mr. Edward Preston for the reason that he did not establish to the satisfaction of the Board of Assessors that he had given the minimum amount of military service as required by sub-section (4) of Section 2 of the Military Service Pensions Act, 1924. If Mr. Preston submits to me additional evidence in accordance with sub-section (6) of Section 3 of the Act, I shall request the Board to re-open their findings in his case. He has been so informed several times.
