Vol. 16 No. 21

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BARRYMORE ESTATE (COUNTY TIPPERARY).

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state why Thomas Prendergast, an applicant for a grant of land on the Barrymore, Ballinree Estate, did not receive notification that the Inspector of the Land Commission was coming down to interview applicants, and if he is aware that he was thus deprived of an opportunity of stating his claim personally to the inspector; whether the Minister will further state if it is a customary arrangement in the Land Commission in cases where applications have been recommended by local Deputies to inform applicants beforehand when the inspector is to come down to interview them, and if this is so, why did not Prendergast receive the customary notification.

Thomas Prendergast made application to the Land Commission in March, 1926, as the representative of an evicted tenant, stating in his application that his father had been evicted from a holding in the townland of Drumlummin, situate about 25 miles from the Barrymore estate. The inspector has been in the district for the past two weeks interviewing applicants for allotments of the lands, but has not yet completed his inquiries. Prendergast will have an opportunity during the coming week of stating his case.
