CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - THE ANNESLEY ESTATE (CO. CAVAN).

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he is aware that a tenant named John Burns on the Annesley Estate, lands of Derries, Killeshandra, Co. Cavan, signed his purchase agreement in 1898 on condition, it is stated, that he would get a particular plot of bog; that his rent was increased 10/- per annum in consideration of his getting this bog which he held from 1898 until 1913; whether the bog in question was mapped in subsequently on the Land Registry map with the holding of Mr. Johnstone, the estate bailiff; whether he will have this case investigated with a view to giving Burns redress by way of reduction in his rent, or by paying him compensation, or otherwise.

In connection with the sale of the Annesley Estate by the owner direct to the tenants under the Irish Land Act, 1903, John Burns signed an agreement dated 1st November, 1905, for the purchase at £117 of his holding described thereon as comprising 9 acres 1 rood 7 perches of Derries Lower and 1 rood 35 perches of Derries Upper (bog) and held under a judicial rent of £4 10s. 0d. fixed by Agreement dated 12th December, 1898. The advance applied for, which came within the zone provisions of Section 1 (1) of the Act, was made and the holding vested in the tenant purchaser on the 25th April, 1912, and the question of his purchase cannot be re-opened.
