Vol. 17 No. 1

WRITTEN ANSWER. - EX-R.I.C. MAN'S CLAIM TO PENSION.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Finance whether the application of Mr. Owen Donegan (ex-R.I.C.), c/o Miss Kennedy, 479 East 137th Street, New York, for a pension, has been considered; if he is aware that Mr. Donegan, a native of Sligo, resigned from the R.I.C. at Goresbridge, Co. Kilkenny, on 2nd June, 1918, through national sympathies, and was discharged on 30th June, 1918, after six years' service, and subsequently emigrated in 1923; that he had a good national record, and whether a decision in the case will be expedited.

I have received this application and rejected it in the absence of any evidence that Mr. Donegan's resignation was caused by national sympathies. He was informed of my decision by letter of the 8th ultimo.
