Vol. 17 No. 5

PATENTS, TRADE MARKS AND DESIGNS (VALIDATION) BILL, 1926—SECOND STAGE.

I move:—"That the Order that a Second Stage of the Patents, Trade Marks and Designs (Validation) Bill be taken this day, be discharged, and that the Bill be put down for Second Stage, January 11th, 1927."

I would urge the Minister to bring this Bill on for Second Stage as soon as possible. I have a letter here from the Nursing Council upon this subject, pointing out that they are unable to get badges for their registered nurses until this Bill is passed. They are extremely anxious about the matter. One of the sentences in that letter reads: "The position for registered nurses is very serious, as it is a requirement in countries outside the Free State that a nurse claiming to be registered should be able to produce a badge in order to substantiate her claim." They are not able to provide badges at the present time and will not be until this Bill is passed. I press, therefore, the urgency of passing this Bill with as little delay as possible.

The matter which the Deputy speaks of will be dealt with under the Industrial and Commercial Property (Protection) Bill, 1926, the Committee Stage of which will be taken this day week. The matter is not dealt with under this Bill. They are different Bills.

Question put and agreed to.
Second Stage ordered for 11th January, 1927.
