Vol. 17 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - FUTURE OF HOME BARRACKS (ENNIS).

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state how it is proposed to dispose of the Home Barracks at Ennis (formerly the County Jail and Inebriates Home).

It is not intended to utilise this building again as a Prison and it is therefore proposed to make a Closing Order at an early date in accordance with the provisions of Section 30 of the General Prisons (Ireland) Act, 1877. The effect of this will be that the building will re-vest in the County Council on the expiration of twelve months after the date of the closing order, unless in the meantime it is utilised for some public purpose. No such purpose is at present in contemplation.
