Vol. 18 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DRAINAGE.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will introduce legislation to amend the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, giving powers to county councils to undertake the carrying out of some of the smaller drainage schemes where the expenditure involved is not very great, and where the area included in the drainage district is entirely within the confines of a county.

The question of promoting legislation to supplement the Drainage Maintenance Act, 1924, and the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, has been the subject of inter-departmental consideration. Heads for a Bill have been settled and a measure will be introduced as soon as circumstances permit.

How soon will that be?

I could not say.

Will it be this side of the General Election?

I do not think so.

Then there will not be any drainage this year.

The Dáil will be drained.
