Vol. 18 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WESTERN TELEPHONIC FACILITIES.

LIAM MAC SIOGHUIRD

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he can state when telephonic facilities will be extended to Ballinrobe and Westport.

An extension of the telephone system from Claremorris to Castlebar and Westport is at present under consideration and a canvass for subscribers is being made at both towns. The question whether the scheme can be sanctioned will depend upon the amount of local support forthcoming. Should the extension be warranted the work will be carried out as early as possible in the next financial year.

I will have inquiry made as regards the suggested extension from Claremorris to Ballinrobe and if sufficient subscribers be obtained at the latter town the work will be proceeded with.
