Vol. 19 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BLIND PERSONS PENSIONS.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when the recommendations of the Old Age Pension Committee of Inquiry regarding the Blind Persons Pensions are to be given effect to.

I would refer the Deputy to the detailed reply given in reply to the question put by Deputy Corish on behalf of Deputy O'Connell on Tuesday 7th December last in this matter.

Is the Minister aware that as the Act is at present administered there are very many injustices being done to the blind and to the partially blind, and will he do something to expedite the recommendations and put them into effect?

I have said that I think the Act in respect of the blind is a somewhat rigid Act and the question of amending its provisions is under consideration.

Will the Minister give any intimation as to whether it would be possible for him to amend the Act before the dissolution of the Dáil?

I do not think so.
