CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GENERAL ELECTION ARRANGEMENTS.

asked the President whether it is a fact that the date of the General Election has been fixed to take place about the first week in June; if so, whether nominations will be from the new or old Register; whether the new Register will be ready from the printers for the use of Candidates' Agents; whether there will be time for candidates to get cards printed, giving each elector his number on the Register and his particular polling place; and whether the question of closing down schools for four or five days, three weeks before holiday time, has been seriously considered, with regard to teachers and scholars.

The date of the General Election can only be considered in relation to the legislative programme, and after making due allowance for ample consideration of that programme it is hoped that it may be possible to arrange for the election to be held in the second week of June. Administrative arrangements are proceeding on that basis. We have no reason to doubt that the new Register will be ready in sufficient time to enable candidates to make due preparations for the election. A Bill which will be introduced on to-morrow to amend the electoral law contains amongst other matters provision that so long as a person is registered as an elector in a register of electors in force for any portion of the period for the receipt of nominations such a person shall be considered a registered elector for the purposes of nomination. The answer to the last portion of the question is in the affirmative.
