Vol. 19 No. 12

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - CONVENT SCHOOLS.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that certain lay teachers in Convent Schools and Junior Assistant Mistresses have been, during the past year or two, and are presently being, compelled to retire on account of age without having any provision whatsoever made for them by way of pension or gratuity, and whether the Minister is in a position to say that the proposed Pension Scheme for such teachers will be made retrospective, so as to cover the cases of those who have had, or who may have, to retire before it becomes operative.

The report of the actuary on the position of the Teachers' Pension Fund has not yet been received, and, pending the receipt and consideration of this report by the Minister for Finance, I am not in a position to say whether legislation to alter the Teachers' Pension Fund will be introduced, or, if introduced, to indicate the nature of such legislation.
