Vol. 19 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SIXMILEBRIDGE DRAINAGE SCHEME.

asked the Minister for Finance if he can state whether the question of restoration of the Sixmilebridge drainage district under the Drainage Maintenance Act, 1924, has been considered by his Department, and approved of, and if he can state the total cost of the scheme and the date when work thereon will be initiated.

The Sixmilebridge drainage district was inspected by an engineer from the Commissioners of Public Works in 1925, and on consideration of his report it was decided that the works required to restore it would be too extensive to undertake under the Drainage Maintenance Act, 1924, and their cost would impose too great a burden on the occupiers of the lands benefited. This decision was communicated to the Secretary of the Drainage Board, the Clare County Council and others interested. Recently a petition for a scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, in respect of the area embraced in the existing drainage district was received from the Clare County Council, and at present an investigation is being made as to the merits of the proposed scheme. At this stage it is not possible to state whether or not the scheme will be proceeded with.
