Vol. 19 No. 19

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SECONDARY TEACHERS' PENSIONS.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Education whether in view of the early dissolution of the Dáil he is now in a position to make a positive announcement on the question of secondary teachers' pensions.

An actuarial investigation regarding the cost of the proposed scheme is at present in hands, and pending the completion of this it is not possible to make any detailed statement on the subject.

As the Minister indicated previously, it is intended to make arrangements that such teachers as wish to retire in the near future may be admitted to the advantages of the scheme and suffer as little disadvantage as possible by the delay.

Is it contemplated making those pensions in any way retrospective so as to cover, say, this year and last year? There has been considerable delay since this was promised.

It would be better, I think, to put that question to the Minister.
